LOMBOK MARINE TOURISM
Welcome to Lombok Travel Online (LTO Tours), We provide
all information about Lombok island marine tourism
by detail below :
1. Senggigi Beach and Batu Bolong Beach
region is the main tourist destination on the island of Lombok
in Indonesia. The main town is Senggigi itself, and the whole
area is well known for its beautiful west facing beaches. The
Senggigi region is formed by several adjacent yet subtly
different areas all lying along the same 2 lane coastal road.
The exact boundaries of each area can seem rather ill-defined.
While pockets of development can be found in some areas, long
stretches of open undeveloped land lie in between. Nightlife and
major restaurants are concentrated in the central township of
Senggigi. The first time visitor should be aware of these
distinct regional differences. Simply booking a hotel in
Senggigi could mean a relatively remote location where the town
centre can only be reached by taxi or public transport.
Batu Bolong Beach
Located 9 km from
downtown Mataram, this beach has a huge rock with a hole in it.
It is an ideal place which to see the majestic sunset from
Lombok Strait. After sunbathing, relaxing and frolicking on this
beautiful beach-front, try to stay till the end of the day to
watch one of the most stunning sunsets you have ever seen when
the sun slowly begins to disappear behind Mount Agung with
incredibly flaming colors. A Hindu temple lies on top facing the
Lombok Strait and beyond is the contour of majestic Mount Agung
of Bali. Colorful and musical religious ceremonies are often
held in this beautiful temple.
2. Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and
The Gili Islands
(Indonesian: Tiga Gili [Three Gilis], Kepulauan Gili [Gili
Islands]) are an archipelago of three small islands or Gili
island triplets (Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air), just
off the northwest coast of Lombok, Indonesia.
The islands are a popular destination for tourists. Each island
has several small resorts, usually consisting of a collection of
huts for tourists, a small pool and restaurant. Most local
inhabitants live on Trawangan in a township stretching along its
east side just inland (which is also where most recent
development is taking place). Automobiles and motorized traffic
are prohibited on the islands by local ordinance, so the
preferred method of transportation is by foot and bicycle or the
horse-drawn carriage called a cidomo. Scuba diving and free
diving in and around the Gilis is also popular due to the
abundance of marine life and attractive coral formations. Most
famous diving spots are Shark point, Manta point and Simon's
Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air
Arcing away from the
northwest corner of Lombok, the Gili Islands are three idyllic
atolls where the sand is still powdery white, the water a clear
sparkling turquoise, and the sunsets over Bali’s Agung in the
west simply spectacular.
Home to the largest Irish bar on the smallest island in the
world, an authentic Japanese sushi restaurant, a turtle
hatchery, ominous sounding dive sites like ‘Shark Point’ and
miles and miles of white sandy beaches, Lombok’s Gilis, make a
surprisingly ideal getaway destination. Getting there is easy
and whichever way you chose, you will be guaranteed to see some
of Bali and Lombok’s breathtaking scenery.
Fortunately all three Gili Islands will not permit any type
of motorized transport on them and therefore rely on bicycles or
horse and carts, locally known as ‘Cidomos’. Bicycles can be
rented from any of the kiosks and cost from around Rp20,000 an
hour, or better value, ask for the daily rate. Cidomos (local
horse and carts) are easily located all over the islands but
tend to hang around the harbour and busy spots, arrangements can
be made if you are staying in a more remote place on the island,
for instance a late ride home…. Haggling is the norm, and always
agree a price before your journey.
Although originally discovered by backpackers in the mid
eighties, and with a reputation as a party destination, the
Gilis now boasts themselves as a great destination suitable for
families of all ages. Various new hotels, luxury villas, and
boutique bungalows now cater for children and offer good value,
some have baby sitting services, and with lots of activities on
the islands families are sure to enjoy their holidays to the
Swimming and Snorkeling
The best places for snorkeling and swimming are along the main
Masks, fins and snorkels can be rented by the hour or day, from
any of the 7 PADI and SSI dive centers or the kiosks in the
street. Glass bottom boat trips around the three Gili islands
are available and cost around IDR 150.000 per person. You can
see all types of marine life just by snorkeling including many
fishes and corals and of course lots of turtles, but please be
careful not to touch the coral.
Please Note: Do not try to swim between any of the 3 Gili
islands as the currents in the channel can be unpredictable and
There is now an ATM machine at Hotel Villa Ombak on Gili
Trawangan open 24 hours. All the dive centers and bigger hotels
accept Visa and MasterCard credit cards with an additional 3%
bank charge. Cash advances at 10% are available in many places.
Money changers will cash traveler’s checks and currency but at a
much lower reduced rate than on the mainland.
All three Gilis islands do now have their own PLN electric
generating stations and in theory should have power 24 hours a
day. However in the peak seasons this can be put under strain
particularly late afternoon and early evening. A large number of
businesses now have their own generators such as the larger
hotels and restaurants so as to avoid the problem. And usually
power cuts or ‘mati lampu’ only last a few hours, although
sometimes can last up to a few days.
There are a number of internet cafes on Gili Trawangan, Gili
Meno and Gili air all charging approximately the same, (around
IDR 500 per minute) although all operate at different speeds.
For telephone calls the best place to use is the shops called
Wartel. Located next to the art market on Trawangan, at the Ozzy
shop on Meno, and behind Villa Karang on Gili Air.
Crime, safety and health
Generally there is very little crime on the Gili islands,
however no where is 100% free of petty crime. As with any where
in the world you travel its best to leave your valuables in your
room, and ideally in your hotel safe. If you do have any
problems on the island report them to the Head of the Island (Kepala
Desa) at the Satgas office, located opposite the Harbour. There
is a new 24 hours clinic at Hotel Vila Ombak on Gili Trawangan
that has a doctor and nurse on call that can deal with minor
injuries and problems, and can also dispense certain
Most businesses rely on well water for showers and bathrooms,
some places are now importing fresh water from the mainland
Lombok. Some hotels have the option of fresh water mandi after a
well water shower. All fresh water is brought to the islands by
small fishing boats from Lombok – in the unlikely event the
water cannot timeously be delivered guests will need to use the
well water. The delays can be due to the tides being to low and
the delivery boat not being able to get over the reef or the
seas being too rough.
So Please use the islands water resources sparingly!
If your holiday is planned and it is to revolve around fresh
water & power please do not think about making a booking on any
of the 3 islands as services are not guaranteed… The Gili
islands are very much grass roots with really very little
development…… This just will not be your type of holiday…
Embrace simplicity as there are few places in this world that
are easy to access, but where you can still have a remote
The Wallace line
Sir Alfred Russel Wallace, the so-called father of animal
geography, formulated his ideas on evolution by natural
selection while observing and collecting wildlife in the islands
of Southeast Asia. He was particularly impressed by the sudden
difference in bird families he encountered when he sailed only
twenty miles east of the island of Bali and landed on Lombok.
On Bali the birds were clearly related to those of the larger
islands of Java and Sumatra and mainland Malaysia. On Lombok the
birds were clearly related to those of New Guinea and Australia.
He marked the channel between Bali and Lombok as the divide
between two great zoo geographic regions, the Oriental and
In his honor this dividing line, which extends northwards
between the islands of Borneo and Sulawesi, is still referred to
today as Wallace’s Line.
3. Gili Nanggu and Gili
Nanggu Lombok, When most of the people hear about the Gili
islands in Indonesia, they probably think of the 3 famous Gili
islands Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno, and Gili Air in the northwest
of Lombok. But did you know that there are many more Gili
islands that are even more pretty and beautiful? A day trip to
Gili Nanggu is like being transported to a completely different
world, or at least a different Indonesia! No traffic, no crowds,
and no vendors, but just unexploited nature and plenty of
tropical fish. I recently visited Gili Nanggu, Gili Tangkong,
Gili Kedis, and Gili Sudak. This post will introduce you to the
paradise islands of Lombok!
Gili Nanggu is the most beautiful island of these four
Gili’s. There is almost nothing going on. So far, I believe
there is only one accommodation and one restaurant on the entire
island. We did some snorkeling around Gili Nanggu and there was
plenty of beautiful coral and colorful fish around. The beaches
at Gili Nanggu are tropical white and you will find crystal
clear blue water, where you can perfectly snorkel and swim. At
Gili Nanggu we found more fish and coral than on the other Gili
Gili Kedis is
the tiniest island! It is probably not bigger than the size of a
tennis court, and has the shape of a heart. You won’t find
anything on the island, except from some trees in the middle.
There are not so many fish around, but it is worth trying.
4. Kuta Beach and Tanjung A'an
The best-known place
on the south coast is Lombok's Kuta Beach (Sometime spelt
'Kute Beach'), a magnificent stretch of white sand and blue sea
with rugged hills rising around it, but not much else. Plenty of
good waves break on the reefs around here - many supposedly
“Secret”. There are lefts and rights in the bay in front of Kuta,
and some more on reefs east of Tanjung Aan. Local boatman will
take you out for a few thousands rupiah. Go about seven km east
of Kuta to fishing in Gerupuk village, where there are several
potential breaks on the reefs at the entrance of Gerupuk Bay.
Again access is by local fishing boat.
There's more breaks further east and west, from Blongas to
Serewi. Also known as Putri Nyale Beach, Kuta on the south coast
of central Lombok is one of the most scenic and unspoiled
beaches in this part of Indonesia. From Kuta to Tanjung Aan five
km away, it is an unbroken stretch of clean white sand on the
Indian Ocean. It is safe for bathing and swimming. Further to
the west are the surfers and wind surfer's beaches. Each year,
on the 19th day of the tenth month of Sasak lunar calendar on
February or March when Nyale fish come to the sea's surface,
Kuta Beach is the site of great festivities. Fishermen sail out
to sea while young men and women gather along the beach to join
in the merrymaking, tease each other and perhaps meet to build a
more lasting relationship.
Tanjung Aan Beach
One of the beautiful beaches in south Lombok, Tanjung Aan Beach,
the home of Princess Mandalika. The beach is facing the Indian
Ocean with about 2 km stretched coastline. One thing that you
will directly notice when you hit out feet on Tanjung Aan Beach
is the sand. Unlike other Lombok beaches, the sand of this beach
is like a pepper.
This beach is perfect for who are looking for a perfect beach to
swim or snorkeling due to the smooth flowing wave with medium
height. If you don’t bring your own equipment, you can get the
high quality ones on the area. In the late afternoon, when the
wave is getting high, Tanjung Aan Beach will be the rendezvous
spot for surfers.
Tanjung Aan Beach is surrounded by some hills and you can get
easy access to the hills to see Tanjung Aan Beach from the
higher level. Around this lombok tourism, you will find some
wooden umbrella with braided straw roof. This is one of the best
ways to enjoy the beach; you can tan your skin and grab your
coconut that you can buy there. You can also find rows of
restaurants that serve various foods and beverages that can be
enjoyed together with the magnificent view of Tanjung Aan Beach.
5. Mawun Beach
From many beaches in
Lombok Island especially in the south side, many beaches which
are still unpopular, though the condition are quite well. Many
factors caused this thing, but the main thing is the inadequate
infrastructure and the less clean condition. Mawun beach
is included to this category. If it seen form beach’s source,
Mawun beach is so worth it to be a beach tourism destination.
The beach which is a part of a bay, has horse shoe shaped with
two hills in the west and east side. Has the white sand and soft
texture in the center side of the beach. While in the west side,
the sand tends to be rougher and mixed with rocks splits. The
middle side of the beach’s topography is also steeper than in
the west and east side. The waves in the middle part of the
beach is also stronger compared to those in west and east side.
The middle side of the beach also contaminated by plastic
rubbish which carried by the waves. Its understandable because
the middle side of the beach is faced directly to the Indian
ocean while the west and east side of the beach is blocked by
Mawun Beach Lombok
mawun beach Every day, the beach is visited by visitors,
domestic and foreign as well though it’s not in large amount.
Domestic visitors usually come in the morning and leave the
beach before the sun gets too hot. On the contrary, the foreign
visitors usually visit this beach when the sun is still so hot
at noon. Besides swimming, they also lay down spending times by
reading of self-portraying. If you want to visit this beach,
choose the east and west side of the beach to do activities.
Beside it clean, these two parts of the beach are gradually
inclined and not too wavy. It also fit for kids to play. In
Mawun beach, there are several activities you can do. From
laying down doing sun bathing, walking along the beach till
swimming. Especially for swimming, you need to be careful if you
doing it in the middle part of the beach, because the topography
of the bottom sea from beach’s land to the middle of the sea is
quite steep. Besides, there are no lifeguards in here.
If you want a different activity, try to climb hills in the both
tip side of the beach. Form up there; you could enjoy the
wonderful view of Indian Ocean, the hills and the curved beach.
6. Selong Belanak Belanak
When you are talking
about beach, then Lombok is serving the same beauty as Bali.
Many tourists find Lombok more interesting because each of the
beaches that can be found in Lombok tourism is having its own
character and uniqueness. One of them is Selong Belanak Beach,
it is quite a beautiful long beach with white sand.
Selong Belanak Beach can be said as one of the most prestigious
beaches on Lombok tourism, especially when we are talking about
the beauty and cleanliness of the beach. One of the best things
about this beach is the shape of the shore that looks like a
crescent. The beach is having a curvy shape with hills on each
point. This beach is the part of Selong Belanak Bay that faces
Indian Ocean. The length of the coastline is not less than 1 km.
About a quarter part of the south side of the beach is used by
local people as village. There are about 40 families who work as
fishermen there. Of course, the area is not recommended for
swimming because there are so many fishing boats rest there. If
you want to do water sport, it is recommended to do the
activities from the central to the north side of the beach. The
area is free from local people’s activities. Local and
international tourists are able to use the area for beach and
water activities. Selong Belanak Beach has the glittering soft
white sand and sloping contour. The wave is not so high and the
water is perfectly clean.
Selong Belanak Beach
selong belanak beach with such beach condition, you are able to
do various activities. You can just relax on the white sand,
exploring the beach, sunbathing, swimming and many others. You
can also go fishing by renting a small fishing boat from the
local fishermen or if you are interested in the local people’s
life, you can simply observe they way they live like how the
children taking up water for the every day need, fishermen
fixing their boats, the fishermen’s wives making sate from their
husbands’ catch and many others.
Even though this beach is so popular, but when we compare it to
other beaches, the beach is relatively tranquil, you will only
find some tourists spending their time on the beach. The beach
will be so crowded during the holiday season. Therefore, if you
are looking for a beach that allows you to relax and enjoy
silence, this beach is highly recommended.
This beach is not crowded, but we don’t have to worry about the
facilities because we can find so many warung near the
fishermen’s village. You can also find fish sate there. If you
want to stay overnight, you can rent a villa in the area.
